2026-2027 Bus Stop Review

Due to the severe road conditions from snowfall in early January 2026, many yellow bus routes had experienced significant delays, with buses becoming stuck. These delays resulted in students missing valuable instructional time.

To ensure student learning is not further impacted for the 2026-2027 school year, ECSD is undertaking a system-wide review of bus stops on regular yellow bus routes to ensure routes operate efficiently and safely in the future.

Bus information will be updated on PowerSchool in August. Families are asked to carefully review the stop locations for the start of the school year.

Winter Weather Reminders

• Our transportation system has an excellent record for service; however, given the possible extremes of Edmonton weather and the potential for unexpected mechanical difficulties, it is impossible to guarantee buses will run on time or at all. A route can take significantly longer in adverse weather conditions. 
• If weather delays or cancellations happen, we will notify families as soon as we become aware. You are encouraged to monitor and subscribe to notifications through the BusPlanner Delays App.
• Please ensure children are supervised at the bus stop, have alternate arrangements should the bus be significantly delayed, and are dressed appropriately to withstand the weather.

Edmonton Catholic Schools contracts with various Yellow School Carriers to ensure safe and efficient yellow bus service for more than 12,500 students every school day. As one of the largest school divisions in the province, ECSD recognizes the importance of reliable transportation in facilitating access to education for its students.

To ensure the utmost safety of students, the contracted carriers must adhere to rigorous standards and regulations. These requirements include driver qualifications, vehicle maintenance, safety inspections, and adherence to traffic rules and regulations. We work closely with contracted Yellow Bus Carriers to monitor and enforce these standards, ensuring that the transportation service is reliable and safe.
